Companies appearing under searches such as “abrasive grain supplier,” “white fused alumina supplier” or “silicon carbide supplier” can have very different business models. Some operate fusion furnaces. Some purchase crude material and perform crushing, magnetic separation and classification. Others buy finished grain and provide blending, repacking or local distribution.
None of these models is automatically bad. 5. Ask for Technical Documentation Before You Ask for a Discount

At minimum, I would normally ask for:
TDS — Technical Data Sheet
This should describe the typical properties and available specifications of the material.
COA — Certificate of Analysis
This should provide test data corresponding to the product or production batch.
Depending on the application, buyers may also request:
- Particle-size test report
- Chemical analysis
- Magnetic-content report
- Safety Data Sheet
- Country-of-origin documentation

Not every order needs every document. The point is to establish the documentation requirements before the purchase order is issued.

During the production trial, compare the new material with your existing abrasive under similar process conditions.
For grinding, you might track:

- Grinding time
- Tool life
- Surface finish
- Heat generation
For blasting:

A supplier may advertise a large annual capacity, but purchasing teams should understand what that number actually represents.

A factory might be able to produce large quantities of fused material but have limited capability in fine classification. Another company may not operate the original furnace but have excellent downstream processing equipment for producing tightly controlled powders.

The price is dramatically below every other quotation
Manufacturing efficiency can create price differences, but a quotation far below the market deserves investigation. Check whether the chemistry, grit standard, packaging and trade terms are actually equivalent.
The supplier refuses to provide technical data
Industrial abrasive material should have a specification. If basic chemistry and grit information cannot be provided, the buyer has little basis for quality acceptance.
Every product has the same generic COA
Different abrasive sizes can show different analytical results. A supplier using one generic certificate for every grade may not be providing meaningful lot-level quality data.
